As Rainbow Dash walks through Ponyville, Pinkie Pie appears and asks for help setting up a Trail Trotters party for Fluttershy, mentioning that Rarity and Applejack are setting up decorations and collecting butterflies and that Twilight Sparkle needs Rainbow to deliver something for the party. Rainbow is confident that she can complete all of these tasks with her incredible speed, but on her way to Twilight's house, she gets sucked into a Wonderbolt mobile game and loses track of time.

Hours later, at Twilight's house, Twilight gives Rainbow Dash her "Replitron 5000" duplication device to duplicate Rarity's decorations and warns Rainbow to be careful with it. Rainbow brings the device to Sugarcube Corner and uses it to duplicate dozens of party balloons. When Fluttershy arrives before enough butterflies have been collected, Rainbow uses the Replitron to duplicate a single butterfly into hundreds.

This causes Rainbow Dash to be propelled years into the future, where duplicated butterflies have completely overrun Ponyville and parties have been outlawed. An older Tank appears and (using a voice box to speak) tells Rainbow that not every problem can be solved with speed—sometimes it is important to slow down and focus before acting. Rainbow Dash, wanting to go back and fix the horrible future she created, takes this lesson to heart. She is sent all the way back to the beginning of the episode with a new philosophy on speed—as well as a fear of butterflies.
